For many of us, life is a breeze, filled with happy memories, exciting projects and enjoyable moments. From time to time, however, it’s completely normal that we become overwrought and overwhelmed, feeling the pressure from external things building up. Whether it’s down to work, social life or familial pressures, feeling overwhelmed is a completely normal part of life and no matter how strong we might seem on the outside, all of us suffer from the feeling from time to time. How we get over the feeling is a whole other issue and while it can feel distracting, alleviating feelings of anxiety or pressure can be a relatively easy thing to do; it just pays to have a game plan before you get going. One of the worst things that we can do when we’re feeling overwhelmed is to worry why we’re feeling overwhelmed but unfortunately, this is something that the majority of us can’t help doing. Being overwhelmed is something that happens to everyone so while it might seem like the worst thing in the world, there is more than likely someone out there suffering from exactly the same feeling than you, if not worse. Accept that you are feeling overwhelmed and try listing all of the reasons why this might be the case. If you can pinpoint a clear stimulus, it might be time to take a look at it and figure out a way of changing this part of your life. The quicker you come to terms with your emotions, the more readily that you can get over them.

It’s easy to get stuck in a spiral when you’re feeling overwhelmed, focusing on your own problems as the center of the universe. While it’s certainly worth figuring out what it is that’s making you feel a certain way, obsessing over the feeling for too long is nothing but detrimental. To focus your attention elsewhere, try shifting your perspective and taking a look at the ways in which you can help other people. Doing something completely disconnected from your usual routine is a great way of shedding light on the situation and work out how you can solve the problem. The less you worry about what you’re feeling, the more easily you will be able to solve it.

When we’re feeling less than our happy selves, it’s completely normal for us to bury the problem, mask our emotions and try to focus on something else. While obsessing over feeling overwhelmed can certainly be a bad thing, burying your feelings or leaving them to fester can only have you feeling worse in the long run. If you find yourself dealing with overwhelming emotions for significant periods of time, it might be worth talking to someone about it, or focusing on what you can do to make a positive change. Being overwhelmed isn’t just a bad thing; it could just be a sign that it’s time to start doing something differently. Take a look at your life and see how much of it is really making you happy. If you struggle to find a starting point, something might be due to change.
