3 Ways To Better Manage Your Anger

Anger is an emotion that we all deal with at one time or another. And while some people are fantastic at managing and stifling anger when it comes up, others don’t enjoy the same luxury. If you are one of those people whose anger often gets the better of them, these 3 tips to help you manage your anger will be of great use.

Sometimes, calming ones anger and fury is as absolutely simple as relaxing, calming down and taking time to identify the situation. Chances are that you will realize the reason you were angry in the first place was silly and unnecessary. If you don’t follow this advice to calm down and take time to relax, you will likely have numerous different physical outbursts that could make others become increasingly uncomfortable and annoyed with you.

2. Practice Relaxation/Meditation

While this isn’t about managing in the moment like the last entry, practicing relaxation techniques and meditation could go a very long way in helping you be less angry and more calm/relaxed over time. When you haven’t prepared for it in the form or relaxation or meditation, when anger comes it can be very hard to calm yourself. This tip is all about being proactive against your anger, not reactive as so many people are.

3. Use “I” Statements

This one is all about limiting your anger by avoiding putting blame on others or criticizing them. Normally when we are mad, putting blame on other or criticizing is par for the course, but only makes us angrier. By using these “I” statements you are not placing blame and thus not making others unhappy with you, while also not making yourself angrier in the process. For example, saying “I’m unhappy you were home all day and didn’t think to clean up a bit” instead of “you always lay around all day and never clean up”.
