In today’s largely multicultural and globalized world, learning a second language has never been more important or easier. Whether you want to become fluent for a job or other aspiration or just learn a couple phrases and words for an upcoming trip or anything in between, there are many options out there for you. Here are three of the best.
1. Get an App
In today’s day and age, there are a ton of great apps out there from a variety of different providers that can help you learn a language. While this might take a bit longer than other options, it is easy to do and can be done on your own time with only your phone. These apps will begin by introducing you to easy concepts and then will eventually get into more difficult and complex ideas and topics. These apps are often laid out in a “game-like” fashion which helps to intrigue and keep the interest of the user.
2. Get a Coach/Take a Class
In the past, if you had wanted to learn a second language your most available (and the most popular) option was always to get a teacher/coach or take a class. While the introduction of various computer programs and apps have taken some of their heat, classes or a language coach are still a viable option in 2016. While they will likely be more money, more time consuming and more work than an app or computer program, you are likely to learn faster and learn more in-depth by actually speaking one on one with a teacher or coach.
3. Immerse Yourself
This is far and away the best way to learn a language, but is simply not an option for some people due to other commitments or the fact it can be expensive to travel. But truth is, by just flying into a country with minimal knowledge of the language and immersing yourself in the culture and speaking to the locals, you will pick up so much information at record speeds. While yes, the first little while could be a bit tough to get your point across and really speak with anyone, as you experience more of the language being spoken around you, you will notice and recognize cues and words. Pair this method with an app or phrase book and you will be well on your way to becoming bilingual.
