Never-flat tires
In an issue of Consumer Reports, from the 80’s, I once read about a prototype tire system that was flat-proof. The idea was simple. Two half-tires mounted side by side, so if you had a blowout, one was always inflated. Since it never made it into vehicles, something went wrong; so wrong, that the latest never-flat tires eliminate the air-pressure altogether. Genius. At present, we find these on ATV’s but car design is only a few drafts away. In fact, Bridgestone is developing a larger version now. They speculate the technology is a decade away, which isn’t long. Cars of the future will not only fly themselves but will never need a roadside tire change.
