Long before there was the iPad, there was the Newton. Criticized in later years, there was an underground of Newton fans long after its demise. Websites dedicated to hacking the Newton lived on for years. Doctors and other professionals found the Newton handy. Apple designed the Newton to recognize handwriting, but once again they were a little ahead of their time and overpriced. The Newton was not cheap and the handwriting feature did not work as advertised. Apple attempted to fix Newton with the 2.0 release, but it was unsalvageable.
