Heartbreak. It’s a part of life that many of us would do without but unfortunately, it is something through which the majority of us have to go. When it comes to romantic heartbreak, there is endless information on the subject but what about when things break down elsewhere? Bad friendships can be just as damaging to our self esteem as bad relationships and yet, so many of us cling on to them in the belief that things will get better. Sometimes, however, it’s better for everyone involved if you just call it a day, no matter how much it might hurt. Not sure if your friendship is right for you? Let this be your guide.
- Your Friendship Is Unbalanced
Much like a romantic relationship, a friendship is all about the effort put in from both sides. If someone simply isn’t pulling their weight, then, it might be worth questioning if it’s the right thing to keep it going into the future. Pursuing someone who shows little interest in reciprocating will do a great deal of damage to your self esteem and essentially, it might be better off for you if you cut ties. It might hurt at first but before long, you will be better off.
- Your Friendship Is Dragging You Down
Every person goes through high and low points in their life and as a friend, you should aim to be there for the people in your life when they’re struggling with a situation. What happens, though, when a friend really goes off the rails? If someone close to you is exhibiting consistently negative behaviour towards others, you might feel like reevaluating your association with them. If a friend is pushing their nasty habits towards you, it could be time to say goodbye.
- Your Friendship Feels Spiteful
Congratulating your friends on their achievements is one of the best part of a close relationship and even if you might feel a slight twinge of jealousy, on the whole, you should be happy for your friends. If you constantly feel in negative competition with those closest to you, then, it could be time to take a closer look at what is really going on. Feeling jealous of another person more often than not might be a sign that it’s time to call it a day. Being in constant competition won’t do your friendship any good and before it gets out of control, it could be worth walking away.
- Your Memories Are Better Than The Present
When was the last time that you and your friend really had a good time? If you’re counting the days in your head and you simply can’t remember, it might be a sign that it’s time to end things. Friendships that are better in your memories are rarely going to build to something better and if neither of you are feeling it anymore, it’s ok to admit defeat. Not all relationships are meant to last forever and sometimes, it’s ok to let things run their course.
