Instead of growing our seafood in seafaring pods, what about growing that seafood in a lab? It sounds bizarre, maybe even gross, but it’s happening. Before you get your moralistic underwear in knots about science cloning bio-robotic shrimp, relax. It’s made from plants. New Wave foods, the creators of this fern-fauna mashup says they are not growing shrimp cells. They compare it to baking bread. Plant-made shrimp could mean an end to the evils of the shrimp trade, where underpaid, overworked modern slaves peel shrimp to sell in US markets. Now that’s gross.
